Anya Potter is a stylistic illustrator born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan currently studying at Hope College. Influenced by the rich culture of her Carribean heritage, Anya strives to tell vibrant stories through her artwork that is often aimed at children through a variety of mediums.

Compelled to portray fun and powerful stories through narrative, Anya uses her artwork as a method of self-reflection by focusing on the African diaspora. With subject matter ranging from tales of Jamaican folklore to the adultification of black youth, to her experience as a third-culture kid, Anya creates a dialogue to explore the complexity of the Black voice in the human experience.

With a passion for children’s education, Anya is an avid supporter of accessible artwork, with some of her first memories reading comics like Calvin & Hobbes. Inspired by the expressive form of dance that she practiced growing up, Anya hopes to one day translate that love of movement into a future career using graphic novels, comics, and 2D animation. Or assemble a group of artists living and creating in tiny houses in New Mexico. Whichever comes first.
