Storm Drain Initiative

This summer, we continue our partnership with the Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds (LGROW) Adopt-A-Drain Program. Lions and Rabbits supports this program by hiring and project managing local artists to paint storm drains around the city of Grand Rapids. WATER: Our Vital Resource

As you walk around Downtown Grand Rapids and Creston you'll see these water or fish-themed sidewalk paintings that serve as colorful reminders of the importance of protecting our waterways.

LGROW oversees 50,000+ storm drains throughout the Grand River Watershed. These drains are vital to our local ecology and help to manage stormwater. When they become clogged with garbage or covered with leaves and debris, flooding becomes a huge issue.

2020 Artists: Bux Dhyne, Colin Russel, Dayna Walton, Erica Bradshaw, Ivy Carmolli, Jay Kingman, Katherin Hartwig, Kenzi Goss, Kim Kunze, Rachel Hurd, Stephanie Ellis

Working Together To Help Everyone

By painting a few of these drains each year, artist advocate awareness for these small parts of the infrastructure that make a big difference to the health of our community. This program is vital to helping address issues of flooding and water quality in our neighborhoods, and the more people that contribute, the safer and healthier our city will be. If you have the time and will to help out, you can become an Adopt-A-Drain volunteer!

By pledging to keep your drain free of leaves and debris, you are joining your neighbors in helping to protect the environment, manage stormwater, and minimize flooding. It's a small commitment with a big impact!
